Foraging Tour with Geraldine Kavanagh
Go on a foraging Tour with Geraldine Kavanagh of Wicklow Wild Foods as part of Wicklow Naturally’s October Feast.
This is a tour not to be missed.
The starting point for this brilliant foraging tour is at Aughrim market and with a maximum of 15 including Geraldine, booking is advised early.
The group will meet outside the Aughrim Town and Country Market at the Pavillion, Rednagh Road, in Aughrim Village at 10.30am. Before they set off on their walk everyone can take a little tour of the market and meet some local producers and crafters.
After the market visit the group will set off on a fantastic foraging walk.
Geraldine grew up in Wicklow and has spent most of her life outdoors. She has been foraging for many years and started giving classes in wild food foraging in 2011. Geraldine works as the botanical forager at the renowned Glendalough Distillery weekdays and teaches on the weekends.
The group will walk at a leisurely pace through the forest and quiet lanes, learning about the wild foods they encounter as they go – nuts, leaves, berries, fruit, some mushrooms, edible wild foods.
Participants will learn how to forage safely and notes are provided. Participants will have the opportunity to look at some of the recommended wild food guide books and they will look at different ways of preserving wild foods and see how wild foods can be used every day of the year in the kitchen.
The foraging tour will finish up around 2pm.
Geraldine is asking people to bring a packed lunch and water to drink along the way. Wear walking shoes/boots and bring a rain jacket.
Cost – €40 per person and to book please ring 085 153 8795.
