Sustainability

Sustainability is key and we are all constantly facing environmental and social challenges in our society as a whole. Here in County Wicklow, The Garden of Ireland, we know and understand, as businesses working in the food and drink sector, that we need to do what we can to be more sustainable.

Wicklow Naturally encourages member businesses to create sustainable enterprises so we can add value as a food and drink network.

We encourage our members to be sustainable to keep their businesses ahead of the environmental curve.

The United Nations stated that 2020 marks the beginning of a ‘Decade of Action’ to achieve the organisation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are mostly focused on clean water and sanitation, affordable, clean energy, sustainable communities, responsible consumption and production and climate action.

Wicklow Naturally promotes sustainability. There are so many actions businesses can implement so if we all did something we can showcase how in The Garden of Ireland we care about our planet. We ask our members to pledge to do at least one of the below during 2020 while continuing to build on your sustainable efforts.

  • Use green energy suppliers
  • Source as local as local can be
  • Harvest rainwater
  • Use compostable packaging
  • Minimise the amount of food waste
  • Re-use food waste for composting
  • Measure your carbon footprint
  • Reduce the use of paper in daily operations
