BrookLodge & Macreddin Village

You know you’re going somewhere special as you drive to BrookLodge and Macreddin Village in County Wicklow. You might even think you’re lost, but the journey through the meandering mountainous roads and deep forests will lead you to this absolute gem nestled in the Garden of Ireland.

Not only will you uncover a multi-award winning luxurious hotel but Macreddin Village is a food and drink haven which continues to impress visitors from inside and outside of Ireland who enjoy sampling the best wild and organic seasonal foods Ireland has to offer.

Known as ‘The Food Village’ Brooklodge and Macreddin Village boasts an array of unique restaurants and eateries renowned for offering free range, organic and wild food options, allowing you to savour great food in sublime settings. The man behind this food philosophy is Evan Doyle. Evan is a member of Euro-Toques and is strongly connected with the Slow Food Movement in Ireland and The Taste Council of Ireland. With a passion for Wild & Organic foods that has stemmed from his teenage years; Evan first opened The Strawberry Tree Restaurant in Killarney in 1988 where his menus paid homage to the ‘Story behind the Food’.

With the opening of The BrookLodge Hotel in 1999, The Strawberry Tree followed Evan to County Wicklow, where its daily menus are still showcasing the freshest Wild & Organic foods. Foodies from all over the world flock to this picturesque corner of Wicklow to relax and spoil themselves with some of the finest food Ireland has to offer.

Macreddin Village is home to;

  • The Strawberry Tree Restaurant

The Strawberry Tree Restaurant is positioned in the heart of Macreddin looking across the village green and is Ireland’s first certified organic restaurant. It specialises in wild foods and is the pride of the village.

It is also one of the first restaurants in Ireland to name the farmer, the producer and the supplier on its menu, promoting food provenance as its most important offering.

The village really is at the forefront when it comes to County Wicklow’s food and drink offering and produces much of its own organic foods, its own lager and even its own Macreddin Village Gin topped up with Macreddin’s Elderflower Cordial or a glass of wine produced from the Village vineyard – the list goes on.

The village’s ethos for natural and organic goes hand in hand with its aim to help build the future for sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism.

In this respect its credentials are impeccable – the village is a member of the Organic Trust, Bio Hotels, A GMO-Free Ireland Campaign, the Slow Food Movement and is a supporter of Fair Trade.

And on top of all this, visitors can enjoy pampering themselves in the designated Resort Spa or work up an appetite for all the delicious food offerings at the Paul McGinley designed golf course.

BrookLodge & Macreddin Village aims to help build the future for sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism. As an industry leader BrookLodge strives to consistently maintain and update its reduction, reuse, recycling and energy-saving policies. It also promotes the sale of local organic products which are grown naturally and traded fairly.
